Founded in the 1940’s as an attempt to house all the animals mentioned in the Bible (many no longer indigenous to Israel), the zoo today also features species from every continent. Even though it is formally named “The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem,” most people still call it by its original name: the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. It covers 62 acres in a lovely valley with green hills, a small lake fed by pools and waterfalls, spacious lawns and shady beauty spots. The zoo, built on two main levels that house most of the animal exhibits, is elegantly laid out and easy to navigate;  enclosures of the biblical animals are labeled with appropriate biblical quotes. A giant aquarium is under construction and set for a 2016 opening. The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens in Jerusalem it’s a must for children and adults of all ages.

The River Jordan - that biblical lore would have many Americans believe is like the giant Mississippi – is, during much of its 156-mile length, actually not much more than a gushing, wade-able stream. The Jordan is fed by the melting snows of Mount Hermon and begins in the very north of Israel at the Banias Spring. It flows south to the Sea of Galilee, and then continues through the Jordan Valley to the Dead Sea. In Galilee in spring and summer, the Jordan is ideal for kayaking, inner-tubing and white-water rafting. Along its shores, Druze families bake fragrant pita bread and kibbutzim produce some of Israel’s best vegetables, fruits and flowers.

Many parents these days are looking to give their child that special summer experience – the one where he or she could explore, gain new skills, mature and have a lot of fun along the way. BIG IDEA Israeli summer camp is exactly that program- An international tech program taking place in the heart of the start-up nation.

Children and teens, ages 7-18, arrive to BIG IDEA every summer from 30 countries: USA, France, UK, Spain, Italy, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Japan, Russia, China and many more. The main language at camp is English, though you get to hear many other languages as well. Half of the campers are Israeli and the other half are international, which create the unique multi-cultural atmosphere at camp.

During the 2 weeks session, participants get hands-on experience in tech and media workshops of their choice. Some campers choose to create their own computer game, build robots or even program and develop apps. Other can choose to excel in photography, graphic design, become a DJ and even design Jewelries in 3D software, which they can later print in a 3D printer and wear. The workshops are led in small groups of up to 8 campers by professional and mature staff.
